Infinite monkeys.....

Yes, I am bored. And in my usual bored manner, my mind has turned to various odd thoughts.

Been pondering music this time. Ever noticed that part of the guitar in the start of System of a Down's Chop Suey bears an uncanny resemblance to the song of jiggly puff? Or that parts of the overture to Sweeney Todd is a slowed down version of the vocal chorus in 2 in a room's Wiggle It? Or how Oasis' songs all sound the goddamn same?

Anyone else have any examples? I'm discounting obvious riff thefts like ice, ice baby, or ones closer to works in progress - for example in many X-Japan songs you can hear certain note structures that are inchoate forms of what eventually became the Opus that is Art of Life. It's more the complete "WTF?" moments that make you giggle :D

One of the openings on Muse's "Black Holes and Revelations" sounds like the op to Knightrider O.o

:D

The "ka-CHING" from Robert Palmer's Simply irresistable is the same sound effect used in Monkey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_(TV_series))

as a musician, I've seen far too many of these to begin to catalog.

that said, "Amazing Grace" (the hymn), the Eagles' "Peaceful Easy Feeling", the Gilligan's Island theme song, and the Animals' "House of the Rising Sun" can all be sung with interchangeable lyrics and melodies - i.e., the lyrics of "Amazing Grace" to the tune of the verses of Peaceful Easy Feeling, the lyrics of Gilligan's Island to the tune of House of the Rising Sun, etc.

I'm not sure if lyrical cadence really counts thought - it's easy to change words. Hell we do it every time the rats get loose on playtime and we sing to them :P

To me, the opening of Come On Eileen sounds a little like the Fraggle Rock theme song in places...right when it picks up speed, before they start singing.

Also, I swear that the song "Bittersweet Symphony" has part of "Hall of the Mountain King" as the violin backing it through the entire song.

LMAO the bassline is similar in places.

Forgot to add - the oasis song Whatever?

Well, um...

Oh, that is win upon win heaped upon win. For serious.

btw, the orchestral part of BitterSweet Symphony is sampled from the rolling stones track "Last Time"

It is? I think that might be one of the few Rolling Stones songs I haven't heard. I'll have to dig it up sometime.
