Happy happy dancey I'm a mis who is prancy....

Work has been mixtures of win and blah. My role is shifting somewhat, I'm now in meetings everywhere for redesigns of stuff from the corporate network and infrastructure to policies and procedures. And in charge of the proxies. And the SEP. And bringing in new and updated monitoring equipment. Fwee. I'm relieving the pressure by wandering around singing "PEWS ON A BOAT! PEWS ON A BOAT! EVERYBODY LOOK AT BEANS 'COS SHE'S SAILING ON A BOAT" at the rats.

BTW, the Yoshi theme music? Intrigues the living fuck out of the herd. And Mo goes crazy every time I do a boss level. Sometimes I can barely see the screen for the lapful of furry faces peering at the gameplay.

Star Trek was of the win. I know it's a bit divisive in parts for fans, but as someone who grew up with this, it got my approval so fat virginal wanky fans can engage me in arguments and I shall smite them. SMITE THEM! (Although seriously, they weren't kidding about the lens flare bonanza!) Although I don't recall Nimoy looking quite that much like a troll doll :P

Picked up House of the Dead 1&2 (Not the bang bang box, although that's on my shopping list) and a Wii Zapper so mowing down the undead and reliving the 90's will be my forte this weekend. Mwahahaha. Also scored a shuttle on Ebay, so that will either become the new MeeVee (Giving us more room for the soon-to-come new speaker system in the lounge) or the MP3 machine for the Man Room depending on its performance.

mm. Shineh toys. Me like shineh toys.

Went a bit over budget this pay (I missed out a weeks pay due to my friggin' back) but dammit, I deserve treats. And so does [livejournal.com profile] torasin - we went halves and he finally got that shiny new EEE PC he's been drooling over since time immemorial (And to be honest, most of the over budget was me over-compensating in shoring up various things that took a dent with the months hiatus in pay, so health insurance, various utilities and the rat savings are well fatted calves) And my con DVD came! I shall rip all manner of Petey and Stricko things and post them all over the internets, yes I will :D

*kicks back and relaxes* Still getting used to these two day weekend things. But I'll adapt...

OH MY GOD the lens flare! I'm very glad I wasn't the only one to notice.

But I thought it was a great movie and the haters can suck it.

Especially since most of their arguments are of the "WAAAAAAAH violating canoooooooon!" kind - when it very explicitly states and the entire movie is based around the fact this is a fucking alternate reality.

Urban and Quinto in particular were fantastic. Although Urban had a few oddly scripted 'trying too hard' moments, I was blown away by the fact Quinto even fuckin' walked and ran like Nimoy. Had the same lanky motion that TOS era Spock did. Shows the calibre of his skills that he can conciously control every motion of his body to that extent while acting and have it seem flawless.

Pegg was wasted though. Scotty's more than comic relief, dammit! *shakes tiny fist*

As I said after we saw the movie again the other night, the only way they could have been more obvious about declaring THIS IS AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE is if Uhura had been reading a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

I totally agree. I'm not into Zachary Quinto at all, but his performance is still the one I keep pondering. He did such a great job.

I know. Poor Scotty. Hopefully they'll make up for it in the next movie. Because I love me some Simon Pegg!

It was odd hearing a half-decent scots accent though! I was never into Quinto either, but god damn, now I could be...

what would you suggest to use for good network monitoring? we need something at the school/org and right now we got nothin.

[identity profile] taleya.livejournal.com 2009-05-16 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Depedns, servers or just bandwidth? Nagios is a good free one, but you need halfway decent linux chops to get it running

[identity profile] vash3g.livejournal.com 2009-05-17 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
A little of both wouldnt be terrible. Prolly more of the bandwidth/traffic monitoring would be better at this point since we have all of 10 servers.
