People. Need. To be. SMACKED

Seriously.
I've been sleeping on and off the couch for a variety of reasons -
torasin habitually doesn't sleep well and worries that he'll wake me (the woman who sleeps through thermonuclear detonations), I'm still adjusting to being off ten years of graveyard and, most commonly - due to the rats.
I found out to my displeasure that I'm allergic to adult PEWS. We found this out as Pinky, Muse, Shola and Missy hit adulthood. I've got some good anti-allergy medication, but it does tend to be hit and miss on occasion. On these occasions, I sleep on the couch, as the ladies have always been in the bedroom, and it's staying that way (heating, cooling, plus the cage has a nook in there and has always been there, so it's an exercise in futility to move them out)
The sheer number of people who's first reaction has been "so when are you getting rid of them?" is staggering. The people who persist in this shit after I explain the allergy reactions and point out that we've had the rats since they were weaned, and that they're a tribe of 8 have me resisting very hard the urge to fucking SMACK THE SHIT OUT OF THEM.
Look at the math, people.
There are eight rats. They are a family. We have had them almost all their life - we are part of their tribe, part of their family, and this is their home as much as it ours.
Missy is blind and mostly deaf. It's taken us nearly a full year to get her to trust us fully, and even now she still has slidebacks on windy days.
The allergy itself is fairly mild, all things considered. Thanks to Aerius, It's down to the rare sneezing spat when cleaning their cage, and occasional coughing jags. (these are the times I sleep on the couch. It wakes me up, it wakes them up, it wakes
torasin up, and the couch is feather stuffed and exceedingly comfy)
These are not toys. They are not amusements. They are living, breathing creatures, and the instant they went into the carrier to come home with me, we took full responsibility to care for them the best we can for the rest of their lives.
NO, I WILL NOT FUCKING "GET RID OF THEM" BECAUSE OF A MINOR ANNOYANCE.
Even the idea of that being acceptable makes me fucking stabby. If it were a major allergy, to the point of life threatening, then yes, rehoming. But for this? this? Since when did a living creature become something you can flush because it's no longer convenient?
People are fucking morons.
