Melbourne is currently at 3a water restrictions. The current bliz is asking people to use 155l water per person per day in households.
Just checked over our water meter - we've used 14kl since the 16th October (48 days if my brain dead math is right)
14/48*1000 = 291.6l per day. Two person household, nine rats (and a lot of washing).
torasin showers every day (5 mins, but seeing as I rarely shower for more than 2 1/2 mins, I let that slide), and we occasionally have baths. Dishes are washed when dirty, and all garden water (and most outside cleaning) is from catchpots (until I get that damned tank)
We're in a rental house. So our rain catchment comes from pots 'cos we can't save all the gutter water, or grey water. We can't install a dual flush (although
ryttu3k recently found an installable/removable one we're ogling) and have instead put a couple of 1l bottles in the cistern to cut down the tank volume. I snuck in a AAA shower head, and repaired the overflow on the hot water heater so it doesn't constantly dribble. If we have baths, it's usually on Friday night and the water is saved for cleaning the rat cage on Saturdays. We can do better, but we're not doing too badly
So....what the hell are other people doing to waste 165l per person a day??
