And yet... I actually wouldn't mind seeing a canon female Doctor, if only for a short time (say, something involving regenerative abilities of Time Lords doesn't go as expected). There have been hints dropped here and there that it is actually possible for Gallifreyans to change sex during regeneration, so playing the matter out could make for a fun story arc, if handled right.
