Yesterday we went to Petbarn and met with a breeder and picked up a lovely, lovely little five week old baby Bubbles. She’s a champagne self, socialised from birth, and loves everyone and everything to pieces.
Of course, you never buy just one rat. They don’t do well on their own. So we checked out Pets Paradise and got schmoozed by a buck, then rang around a bit and hit up a pet store in Burwood.
There we found two utterly terrified little babies, barely weaned, certainly not old enough to be sold, in a tank, in a shop surrounded by snakes. *seethes* We immediately snatched them both up.
Of course, once the snakes were gone it really only took half a car ride for Bossy Boots (Boots) to start stomping about the carrier and about Bubbles going "this is miiine that is miiine, all this paper is miiiiine" and earn her name.
We got them home, got them settled in their new (temporary) quarantine home and poor little Lady Pugglesworth (Pug) spent a great deal of time hiding out in an amphora pot trying not to be noticed. Some rice bubbles soon had her poking her head out on occasion, but scurrying back in every time someone came near the cage. A lot of patience and tissue scraps soon had her tolerating humans looking at her, but still flighty. Some more patience, and cheerios and now she’s stomping merrily about, sticking her nose through the bars and demanding attention :)
Of course, having them both in with Bubbles is helping massively.

This is Pugglebutt’s amphora and no one else may have it!

But she may be tempted by offers of foodstuffs

I WILL EAT YOUR HAAAAAANDS

I, on the other hand, shall use them as a platform.
And finally, just to give you some perspective on how small they are:
