An·glo·phile [nggl-fl] also An·glo·phil (-fl)
n.

One who admires England, its people, and its culture.

Am I an anglophile? Hmm. *ponders* Well, I have a disgusting fondness for things British, but it's not the sort of fannish obsession that you get across the pond. It's more the comfort of the familiar.

I grew up with very strong British influences. I grew up in the Commonwealth. I have a UK heritage. I have a British sense of humour. 99.9% of my favourite shows, books, authors, bands, etc....are British.

Blame my parents, I watched a lot of ABC (BBC's sister site) growing up. Blake's7, Heartbeat, All Creatures Great and Small, Doctor who, HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Young Ones, Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Hamish MacBeth, Brittas Empire, Goodnight Sweetheart, Python out the arse - sweet crap, I could view my life as a series of serials :P

Does that make me an Anglophile? Err, strictly according to the definition above...Not really. I do admire some facets of UK culture, but for the most part, the British influences are just...there. I don't really notice them enough to remark upon it any more than the fact that christmas means hot weather. But every so often, I do get called on it - assumed to BE English, both online and in real life. And it's not through affectation, it's just the way I am.

No, I'm not an expat, no matter what a certain co-worker thinks. Beer should be cold, dammit. But I do have an inordinate fondness for fish and chips...

So..whatcha think, O Pommy friends of mine. Do I count as a posey Anglophile, or as a distant cousin? :P
