Curioser and curioser...

was watching a trailer for some movie or another - there's no speech on this. Just Standing by VNV Nation, and the footage.

And it's an amateur film...but you can tell, just tell it's Australian. New Zealand in a pinch. And you can spot it in the first 10 seconds. There's no landscape to pin it in that sequence, (yes, later you can see what's obviously semi-arid landscape) nothing but a corridor with lockers, and then some people staring out a window.

Which got my brain to taking apart why I think that.

Yes, in part it's the cultural diversity of those people. but, Heeee. subcasts of whiteys. It's not unusual in the slightest, we just don't really tend to notice it. It's interesting. You can take a group of people and work out where they're from - without any questions, without them opening their mouths. Take a bunch of Americans, dress them in Aussie clothing and stick them in a pub. They'll still get spotted as Americans without opening their mouths. Same with English. And Aussies. And I'm not talking so much behavioural patterns, but facial features. It's intersting....

(then again, some people can't even tell the difference between a Korean and a Chinese person. Fucked if I know how that one works out....)
