taleya: (Rats)

Man, 8 friggin' rats and it's always her. Demon child!

This time she seems to have landed herself an ear infection - last night she was stumbling sideways and has a head tilt. Most likely from when we had the Rat Pool (paint roller tray filled with water and frozen corn and peas) set up on Sunday and she took an impromptu dive headfirst into the bloody thing.

Called the vet today at work, trying to suss out if it was worth bringing her in for a steroid shot to reduce the inflammation* He agreed with my diagnosis, and said to do the two week course of Vibravet and Baytril (which we were planning on anyway) and if she wasn't improved as early as tomorrow, bring her in for the shot. She's doing a bit better tonight, but man, she is decidedly Not Happy. I don't see any point in having her in pain for no damned reason, so it's in to work late and a shot in her rump tomorrow.

Arghh. Of course, the servers that I'm watching tend to misbehave the most in the morning, don't they? And guess when Shaw's available until Monday? Mornings only. _-_

Thankfully Nalin (who's supposed to be on bloody holidays, the poor bastard) has agreed to watch over the bastard servers I'm babysitting for him from home via VPN while I nip up and then in late, and [livejournal.com profile] torasin and I are hashing out the details for tomorrow - he's offered to take her in himself, but 1) Mme Control Freak (moi) wants to talk to the vet and check some things, and 2) A shot in the rump will equal a freaked out and pissed off Beans. And [livejournal.com profile] torasin traditionally does not deal too well with freaked out rats. Especially when they get bitey.

So...up, in, shot, get bitten, probably get [livejournal.com profile] torasin to take her home, run into work, have a day full of FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU and then fall over. I do lead a rich and fulfilling life.

And I owe Nalin BIIIIIG.

* Note for non-rat owners - an inner infection will cause a tilt of the head, stumbling, and general uncoordination from the pressure on the 8th intercranial nerve. A stroke and a pituitary tumour can do the same thing, but seeing as she's only got gross motor control issues and recently went swimming, it's more likely an infection. And considering I don't get paid until next Thursday and just paid the utility bills, with rent due Friday....THIS IS WHY I HAS A RAT SAVINGS ACCOUNT! :D
