OK, getting that netgear modem just jumped WAAAAY up on my must do list.

'cos this fucking Dlink came within an inch of flying straight out through the goddamn window.

*glares balefully at it*

Don't think I won't fucking do it, bitch. I've done it with hardware that's pissed me off royally before!

it was a five finger discount at work...I work for an ISP :P

I'm looking at the netgear RP614..at $70, it's looking nice

mind you, I want to be able to manually set the port routing (incoming and ougoing) so I need something I can fuck with the NAT rules for...

apparently possible on most Netgear routers according to my housemate...the model looks pretty similar to ours...

yeah, it's possible on a Dlink too. The question is whether or not they can do it WITHOUT shitting their pants..

odd...the DLink i was running at my old house (not my choice. housemate bought it without consulting me :P ) would port forward etc without hassle...

was a DSL504G with latest firmware...

what do you think abotu the linksys stuff? Found them pretty easy to deal with, and pretty robust. besides I like the idea of having an imbeded linux system on my router, some one has even written a distro with telnet for it (well it's only got 16mb of mem so you cant do much).

havent really had much experience (read none) with Linksys equipment...

sounds interesting though...

Heh, good luck. The least you can do is tear it apart and look inside it once it sets a new record for how high a D-link modem can bounce.

Speaking of work, we have seduced another one to the Dark Side: say hello to [livejournal.com profile] sir_afrodite sometime if you wish. ;)

ah yes, I'd forgotten to pester him - traded LJs on sat? sun? sometime night... :P

And he stole all my Lain DVDs....

And I reckon I can get that fucker to bounce at least six feet...I got pissed off at a VCR once and hurled it out my front window...it landed in a tree, then fell on the ground.

Incidentally, it's the same one I'm using now :P They made 'em TOUGH!

Dark side indeed one has joined.

Oh, and just for the record, i didn't steal nuffin!

maybe i should learn something from this... bounce the fucker off the walls instead of bouncing my fist off a wall... that sounds like a better idea than what i did :|

fieeeeeef! fieeeeeeef! Did too!

Mmm. Rather than bouncing the fucker off the wall, bouncing the fucker off another fucker..I reckon we could get a good game of arsehole pinball going on HD...

btw, excuse me if I braindribble. I havent been to bed yet :P

i'm pretty sure there's enough crap lying around the HD to bounce around... few new monitors maybe...

I can already pick one that does some funky stuff and is worth being piffed... gotta love LG :D

and trust you not to sleep... i almost pulled an all nighter... but i realised i wouldn't be able to say hello to my good friend Mr. Johnny Walker...

mmm...

We keep threatening machinery with a trip to the local interstate highway. Seems to keep them in line.

Now if I could just figure out how to crack the password on my telco-provided doesn't-even-have-a-manufacturer-label DSL modem, I could do some NAT of my own.

tried consoling into it to get any sort of ident?

It's got a web interface run by WebCommander. It tells me the MAC address and the Version number, but for Device Type it just says Ethernet and USB ADSL Router. That's what it says on the outside of the box too.

hrmmm...

Gimme the info on the box, anything at all....I'm used to finding out models from absolutely useless information :D

I'm pretty sure I just found out what it is. The FCC ID (4J2SNGDL01BDL906E) was a total bust. But luckily, UL keeps a list of their stuff too (E157812). They say it's a modem manufactured by Aztech Systems Ltd in Singapore. I'm pretty sure (though not 100%) that it's their Aztech ADSL Ethernet & USB Combo Bridge/Router - Model # DSL 305EU

But I still haven't found any password info for that. *off to keep Googling*

Oh FUCK ME.

They're still using the default username/password on this thing. Good god. It's the same one my wireless router uses. And I wasn't smart enough to try that first.

DAMMIT!

But at least now I can get in and change stuff.

No, the admin/blank combo. That's even worse!

oh jesus christ on a smeggin' crumpet. Who the HELL thinks a blank password is a good idea in any way, shape or form?

Apparently modem manufacturers in Singapore... I'm going to change it. If the phone company has issues, then they can bitch all they want. That's beyond stupid security, right there.
