.....Fucking. yes
Artron flow - look back at that still from the trailer, waaay back in that old post when I said "And if that Artron flow is what I think it is, I will SHIT MY PANTS." I know everyone was going "OMG TENNANT CONSOLE ROOM" but I actually, uh *shameface* didn't notice it was the Tennant console room at first. Because I was looking at the big burst in the background. And I saw, what I thought was the classic console. Which meant a TARDIS materialising again within the TARDIS.
And I was right.
And yes, I shat my pants. with utter glee
Because although it wasn't the classic console, it did bear more than a passing resemblance (look at the console base and the panel flanges). And it was a TARDIS materialising within a TARDIS. Fuck, it was a TARDIS in a TARDIS materialising inside the TARDIS. Awesome
This ep, seriously, slammed right in with a fucking bullet as a fave. It had a wonderfully demented Burtonesque feel to it (classic burton before he made it his goal in life to dress Johnny Depp in as many ridiculous costumes as possible), and it was clever, and oh GOD, yes Gaiman actually gets that the TARDIS is a pan-dimensional living ship and the whole mental break at the start in Idris' body when she's trying to cope living in a mere three dimensional body that exists inside spacetime and not doing terribly well just fucking nailed it. House screwing with Rory and Amy, as well (because the TARDIS can do shit like that) was just added icing. Brick thick. And so very very tasty.
And poor, poor Eleven. Smith was just brilliant there. You have to really feel for the poor bastard - and not in a "Oh my manly Tiemlawd painz" way that Tennanth ended up becoming a pastiche of. But actual, honest to god feeling for him. When he finds the storage locker full of messages from the dead. When he realised that no, there wasn't a chance for redemption, or reunion, or anything. And the broken, childlike way when he said goodbye to Sexy. Because he finally had her. The whole ep, working together, bitching at each other, the joy that they were doing what they'd always done, but this time they could do it together, and he had someone who understood him, who knew him, who didn't love him, because it went beyond that and deeper into that and twined together and they finally were together, on the same plane, on the same footing.....and he was going to lose it again. *sadfaces* And then his dance when he realises that whatever he was doing (which strictly wasn't all he told Rory and Amy - btw, LOL PRETTY) had worked and they could still communicate. Even briefly.
It's a love story with utterly no 'love' getting in the way. Two utterly awesome legends, twined around each other and stealing each other and bound forever in equal joy. Feckin' awesome.
Gaiman needs to write moar who. Preferably half a dozen times per season *nods*
