I shall squee.

yes, the s3 data is being released now for DW. I won't go into it here, hence no spoiler cut.

but let me just quote:

Writers for Series Three include Russell T Davies, Steven Moffat, Gareth Roberts, Paul Cornell, Helen Raynor, Chris Chibnall and Stephen Greenhorn.

I somehow managed to miss that the Moff was doing one! Good news indeed. Glad to see Gareth Roberts in there too, I just wish he could have done one last year while Mickey was on the crew.

Yeah, he'd probably be a lot better at writing the light-hearted, humorous stuff than Davies.

Quite possibly because he has a sense of humour that is not strictly limited to chav jokes, farts and crude innuendo?

Damn, I wanna see Chelonians in s3! GIANT FUCKING METAL TURTLES AHOY!

haha, yes, that's probably the reason.

damn straight! Those Chelonian stories would make great TV episodes, and I bet for those who could see em, the creatures themselves would look fantastic!

They could do a rather nice ET-like effect. Almost cute looking aliens with the urge to KILL ALL HUMANS!

Plus the fact they end up the galaxy's best floral arrangers would appeal to RTD :P

Three for three, let's see how long Sir Moff can hold it up :D

Hey, glad to hear that they're keeping Moffat on. He's probably the best writer they've got!

Uh, I think I must be one of the infinitessimally small number of fans who really doesn't like Paul Cornell's writing much at all. That Timewyrm book he wrote was really interesting and novel but some of his other books read like extremely wanky fanfiction to me, and "Father's Day" was definitely not up my alley at all.

I hope they keep bringing new blood to the writing team though. One of the best things about DW is that nobody can really agree on anything and what's magic for one person might be dross to another.

Father's Day seems to be a bit of a contention point - from what I've found generally though is that it seriously struck a chord with anyone who's ever lost someone and would do anything just to see them one last time. (Paul is writing from experience there, which is why it hit us so hard)

People who don't get that mindset...yeah, I can see where they'd see it as overly dramatic dribble.

And come on! Goth Opera rocks mah socks :D

Well, there are many depictions of grief and bereavement that don't rub me the wrong way at all, and I don't have a knee-jerk negative reaction to sentimentality or anything like that ... but yes, it did seem melodramatic and trite to me. I've still only watched it the one time it aired on television here, even though I've got it on video, so perhaps I should watch it again so I can better articulate exactly what I didn't like about it.

hahah .. "Goth Opera" ... yes, I know exactly what you're thinking, and as the first of the Missing adventures there's arguably room for a bit of wanky fanfiction type writing ... but ... ROmana being picked up by Sabalom Glitz? A simpering smitten evil time lady? Ugh...haha there's another book I'll probably only read once.

One thing I do kind of appreciate is his subculture referencing. I mean normally I wouldn't care for that sort of thing but ... Voivod being mentioned in a Doctor Who book ... that's just incredibly cool. Not to mention, a bunch of punks jumping onstage and gunning down the members of Wings, even if they were only tranquiliser darts. Yeah, Paul got a few cheers from me at that point, I have to admit it.

I'm a sad sad fangirl, but damn I fell off the couch laughing at the "Chap with Wings. Five rounds rapid"

haha...yeah, I burst out laughing then, too. Best part of that book for me, a somewhat disappointing end to a pretty interesting arc that contains two of my favourite NAs.

But yeah, I do agree with you on the Romana bits...They were pretty much sandwiched in to tie back to Blood Harvest
