Why some writers need leashes

Aka "When bad things happen to promising characters"
First off, the Christmas programming sucks this year. One national lampoon vacation and it's not even the Christmas one? BAHHH.
So I landed on Christmas Invasion on ABC :D
You know, re-watching it reminds you of how (dare I say it!) likeable Rose was in S27. She certainly wasn't in my upper echelons, but she wasn't too bad. The shop girl chav who sees things beyond imagining, grows up and works with the Doctor, healing the disconnection and broken soul left after the Time War
Then season two happens, and four, and the character was destroyed. She turned into an obsessive, shallow, bunny-boiling possessive psycho bitch, to be honest. The universe became something for her amusement, as long as she had her pretty boy. And the faery tale ending of S28 left one with the taste of bitter gall that was only superseded by s30's complete and utter vomit-fest. It isn't a grand sweeping love story - it's Basic Instinct in Cardiff. The fact the Doctor leaves her with what he personally considers to be a broken simulacrum should give you a pretty fair idea of how fucked up it got.
Tennant was so damned promising in Christmas Invasion. But they took it too far - joy de vivre became maniacally unbalanced, the detached alienness became emo faggery and sad to say, in a shameful sort of place I'm actually a wee bit glad that DT is leaving - because he's a phenomenal actor and deserves so much better than the shash he's been served.
RTD can pull some brilliance out. But dear god, he needs one hell of a beta, and preferably a leash. Because far too often he comes across as that oh-so-annoying Fanfiction.Net writer with the brilliant ideas that end up smashed into the ground and raped by wilderbeest.

Also, I should download the Colbert album!
