You know, it's a quiet day. I'm puttering about, cleaning my office.

Let me tell you, when you're sitting there watching The Hound of the Baskervilles, cleaning your keyboard, minding your own business, right up in the list of Things You Do Not Want To Happen is while watching the start with the death of Sir Charles on the moor with the howling and theme music and the spookiness and the dog leaps then a GIANT FUCKING POSSUM FIGHT ERUPTS IN THE WALL BEHIND YOU.

Jesus fucking christ.

Fucking brushtails. They hiss. They screech. They do these fucked up guttural coughs, and I'm sorry non-Australians, but there's no real way to portray the unearthly horrifying KWAAAAAAAAAAAAA-A-A-A-A-A noise they make in the middle of the night that even IF you've grown up around them makes you go "JESUS FUCK WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK WAS THAT?.

The ripping noises of their claws INSIDE MY HOUSE also do NOT help.

Just the look of them freak me out. I've seen the ones that look like baby bears roaming my neighborhood and they are definitely a group I don't want to hear fighting.

Will you be able to sleep tonight? I imagine that is something that could keep you up for a while.

These are possums, not Opossums, so very different in look. Brushtails (http://www.jennifermarohasy.com/blog/archives/possums%20blog.jpg) are actually kinda cute, if you don't know what utter bastards they are. (and they're fucking huge.)

The gorgeous ones that live in our garage are ring tails (http://home.vicnet.net.au/~wildcare/Ringtail-Possum-on-fence-HA.jpg). Much smaller, and they just sit there, eat fruit and look insanely cute :D

At least your possums are cute. Ours are an ugly cross between an armadillo and a feral cat. Assuming there would be a not-ugly cross of those two species. When you go to investigate a noise on your back porch and shine the light into the face of one of those, it's quite a shock.

It's actually more shocking ot hear something that cute make that UNGODLY noise. Kinda how most foreigners react when confronted with a Tasmanian Devil, the most fiendishly evil cute creature to walk the earth...

We get them around where my best friend from high school lives. Witnessed a fight between a couple that ended with one dying...AND THEN THEY STARTED TO NIP AT THE CORPSE. I ran screaming down the road to my friend's house and absolutely REFUSED to walk to her place until the corpse!possum was off the road...which didn't happen for about a week.
