Forgot to mention, I has my new glasses! Some of you may (or may not, I keep stuff that really worries me out of my LJ) know that have recently been having vision problems. In my right eye. (err noobies, I'm blind in my left eye due to some hilarious accidents). This, as you can imagine, Freaked Me The Shit Out. Especially one event where I had what I can really only describe as a "jagged matrix" coming down diagonally into my vision for several hours.

Thankfully my eye is not degrading or spazzing out from overwork. I am in fact, light sensitive. I've always kinda been that way (hence my ever-present sunglasses) but now I'm even more so. I blame the LCDs. So I have some seriously funky new purple filtering glasses to wear when my eye bothers me. They do make me look disturbingly like my grandmother, however o.O. And I have some new sunnies that are the absolute bomb and the new toy to play with at work, since due to the way they filter the light spectrum, they show up even the most minute of flaws in an LCD screen. Seriously. Shit you can't see with the naked eye shows up clear as day the instant you slip these babies on :D

Speaking of work...the rundown has been unfun. Lesse. We've had three roof collapses, one site had a breach that flooded 600 sqm of floor (and considering it only had something like 700sqm, this was FUN) and our main campus lost three floors to storm damage. IT has, however, pulled through and foreborne, even through the outrageous panics of others and unreasonable demands (Hey, shithead. I don't care if you can only print black and white. I have a fucking company full of executives WITH NO FUCKING ROOF) . Also had to do a lot of gruntwork - repatching, reimaging, frankenputers, you name it just to try and get space and facilities for staff that have been moved from hither and yon. It's only today that we've even started to look at the total damage and what we can possibly recover. Lots of overtime, and lots more to come... but also lots of money, so I may nose about for an Ebook for [livejournal.com profile] torasin (I offered to get him one for his birthday but he said "meh". Since then he has developed a mild case of Ebook Envy and now wants a new shiney :P)

Nortel VOIP phones btw, are remarkably resilient. We've found ones sitting in a litre of water that were still running. Mind you they were powered off the POE in the comms room (thankfully safe), but still...

At this point, it very much looks like Beans has had a stroke. We had a long, tearful discussion on the weekend over whether or not we should consider having her put down. But she's still in there, and still the same obnoxious snot, so we're giving her every chance we can and lots of PT. She's been feeding herself lately, and even though her entire right side has lost most motor function, she's learning to adapt. I caught her using a back foot to push food in her gob the other day :D Unfortunately she does have a tendency to fall over and lie on her right side most, so she's lost some fur from rolling in food and then not grooming it properly. So we're grooming, feeding, and being a little ratty crutch as she half-assedly meanders about. She's currently gumming my foot as I write this in vengeance for the heinous crime of giving her a bath tonight. Our main concern atm is her left bottom tooth - if it doesn't break on its own soon, we'll probably have to get it cropped at the vet - it's getting too long due to disuse and the last thing she needs is bloody vampire fangs.

it sounds horribly cruel, but if you could see her...bits of her don't work. But the rest of it works fine, and as long as she's not distressed and still has a decent quality of life, we're going to pamper her rotten.

So yes. Life has been....BLARGH of late. But hey, weekend's comin' :P

Now, I do believe I have things to write.....

Sounds like this week needs a swift foot in the arse. Purple specs are cool too, I have cheap purple shade, funky though.

Yay for beans, and weekends!

Busy indeed!

Especially one event where I had what I can really only describe as a "jagged matrix" coming down diagonally into my vision for several hours.

I get that sometimes, every few months, though only for about 20 minutes at a time. It's related to migraines apparently. I don't get migraines, thank goodness! But these things have similar origins.

Poor Beans. :(

hmm. Interesting - and now I'm wondering about the light sensitivity - apparently people with migraines get light sensitive? I've never had a migraine - well, to be accurate, never had the *classic* migraine. I had serious issues after I fucked my eye - I actually fractured the lens as well as damaging the optic nerve behind it, so what I actually see out of that eye is rather akin to peering down a kaleidoscope that's been slobbered on by a dog.

The other eye retained my bloody scary (seriously, it's about 20/10) eyesight. There were...issues trying to process both sets of input at once :P

yeah, but I Don't get migraines. I never have. I had some series of screaming headaches, but as listed above, that was due to the fact my brain was trying to process 20/10 from one eye, and absolute dog vomit from the other :P

Migraines. Why does everyone want to give me migraines? BAAAHHHH

Those zig zaggy things could be (as JFM mentioned) "eye migraines". I get them pretty frequently - apparently they're annoying but not harmful or damaging.

As to Beans, as long as she's not in pain - we had a Pomeranian who was paralyzed in her hind quarters for a good share of her adult life. She had to scoot herself around and be picked up and placed here and there, and various other "modifications" in how we took care of her, but she was happy and loved and that's what mattered. She was almost 18 when we finally had to put her to sleep.

I think you should post ratty picures. I used to have mice when I was a kid... two of them. I kinda miss them...

Also, holy crap I'm glad you're not losing sight in your other eye as well. That would... well "suck" is an understatement, but nevevertheless, that's what it would do... My maths teacher is totally blind in her other eye, so I know it sometimes takes smart logistics to do certain things in everyday life. Having bad eyesight in the other eye too wouldn't help...

Well, you know, as long as you're entertained, it can't be that bad. LOL *ducks*

Seriously, it literally pours on you, doesn't it? Which god's mistress did you run off with to end up with that kind of retribution from above? I hope she was worth it :o)

You know life. Why would it ever resist the urge to shovel more manure on top of you?

And coulda been worse. Coulda been holes punched in my roof :P

LOL exactly.

The roof at the shop leaks during our monsoon season. I've had it looked at at least 4 times by three different people and they all just shrug. Buckets are my friend during spring :o)

Although, the roof has never collapsed. That takes talent. And a metric shit ton of water, I'm sure.

Purple specs sound so cool, just wish they weren't needed. I get light sensitivity with migraines. Not fun at all. OH needs loads of light - consequence of his detached retinas.

Sorry to hear about Beans, but so long as she's got you two, she'll be as fine as can be.

Hope the universe starts coughing up some of that good karma you are overdue for.

She was disgustingly chipper tonight. Had a bath, went all HULKSMAASH and then pooped on me while I was washing her, pooped on me while I was drying her, pooped on me while I was washing the poop from the drying back off her, and then sat on my feet and ate my pizza.

Ingrate

Portable toilets, evidently. We were calling her the lean bean poopin' machine. She's got a lot better balance too, but is still very slow. And absolute pants on certain surfaces, but she's mapped out the couch quite well (she sits under the doona with me while I laptop and plots evil things.)

The other lot got a slice of pizza in their cage. Friday night treat. I have to record that sometime on video - fucking pirahnas have nothing on a bunch of pizza-seeking PEWs

Aw, glad to hear she's getting accustomed to it. Surely couch and duvet are the only two surfaces worth mapping?

The world won't know that fact until we genetically engineer pizzamen for the new wave of huntsmen. "THE PIZZA CHASE IS ON! RELEASE THE PIRANHA!RATS!"
